BOCA RATON, Fla. – The St. Edward’s men’s tennis team lost a tough fight against nationally-ranked #5 Lynn Sunday afternoon at the Perper Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, the Hilltoppers fought hard against their competition, but came up short in all three spots. #28 Ned Boone (Junior, London, England) and Mick Walter (Senior, College Station, Texas) were defeated in a close match, 8-6, against Vlad Cirla and Willi Wolfer at the No. 1 spot. Ryan Wiggins (Junior, Frisco, Texas) and Pedro Bronstrup (Freshman, Porto Alegre, Brazil) were also defeated 8-6 in another neck-and-neck match against George Laffey and Alessandro Sarra.
The Hilltoppers continued to compete against Lynn, but the Fighting Knights continued to outdo St. Edward’s in singles action. Boone (#48) took #13 Wolfer into three sets but was eventually defeated, 6-7, 6-4, 12-10 at the No. 1 spot. Walter (#49) pushed #14 Cirla into three sets as well, but he too would be beat, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. James Rogers (Freshman, Bahagowan, Australia) fought hard against Alex Voirin at the No. 5 spot but came up short, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Friday when they host Midwestern State. The first serve is set for 4 p.m. at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.
