IRVING, (SMU/C-USA) – No. 9 Marta Lesniak has been named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week. Lesniak was 4-0 on the week in action against two nationally-ranked squads in No. 9 Baylor and No. 66 UC Santa Barbara. She picked up yet another win over a ranked foe as she downed Baylor’s Sona Novakova, currently the No. 11 singles player in the nation.

Lesniak, currently listed as the ninth-best singles player in the country, went 4-0 on the week, winning a pair in both singles and doubles competition. In singles, she highlighted her week with a triumph against No. 11 Sona Novakova of Baylor 6-4, 4-6 (14-12). It marked Lesniak’s 14th win over a ranked opponent this season. She then knocked off Natalia Lozano 6-2, 6-2 in the Mustangs’ match against No. 66 UC-Santa Barbara. In doubles play, Lesniak teamed with Aleksandra Malyarchikova and took a 9-7 win over Baylor’s top duo and an 8-3 mark against UCSB’s top pair. Lesniak claims the third Athlete of the Week honor of her junior campaign and the eighth of her SMU career.
