Lineups and Bob McKinley

LINE EM UP

As we wait for the NCAA Tournament to start, there are still several things happening in the background. The coaches have had to post their lineups and they can be found on the NCAA website.

From what I hear, none of the lineups were overturned, which incurs a $300 fine.

That is interesting because Baylor has Bley at #3 and that was overturned for like three straight weeks in the Big 12. With Bucko and Horny at 5 and 6, they are going to be tough. But of course they are sacrificing the #3 line.

Texas dropped Varela all the way down to #6. I have no idea why, except maybe he is injured. He did not play singles at the Big 12 Championships, so that is peculiar.

Rice moved Tachibana up to 4, which is good, but Scheil at 3 and Garforth-Bles at 5? Hmmm.

TCU put Kriegler Brink at 3. Double hmmmm.

Texas Tech even got into the stacking mix with Markovic and Carvalho swapping out at 1 and 2.

MY FAVORITE PLAYER FROM ST. LOUIS IS STILL BOB MCKINLEY

There is an interesting article on Bob McKinley and Jimmy Connors on the A&M website. McKinley is awesome. If you ever had the opportunity to be at Trinity in the 70’s or 80’s you are lucky. It was a great place to watch college tennis. I still remember UCLA making the trip (I had to miss the Stanford match and McEnroe’s only loss, but I don’t want to talk about it). Good times. Where’s James Hill when you need him?

I believe Coach McKinley was the first player to actually win a match at the U.S. Open after getting in with the Kalamazoo WC.
