New rankings, some very cool new data and other stuff

Just a few words before I get back to the grind.

RANKINGS

The new rankings are out and I haven’t really had a chance to look real closely at them, however, my gut instinct is that nothing has really changed. Here’s are the links and top-10 for men and women.

COMPARISON DATA AND NEW PAGES (AKA THE COOLEST THING I HAVE DONE IN AWHILE)

I have been experimenting with some way to compare the team data better and am finally ready to pull this out. Today I completed testing on these pages. The initial pages show a comparison of rankings: the current TCT, current ITA, the last TCT and the initial ITA for all teams.

All of the team name are linkable.

The team pages you are redirected to give some basic data on that team, then their complete schedule (DI only), with the result, opponents W-L, TCT, ITA, last TCT and inital ITA.

At the bottom of the page is the team’s record vs. top-1o, top-25, top-64.

All team names are linkable here too.

WOMEN - http://www.texascollegetennis.com/?page_id=918

These are also the compare pages now up top. Like I said, all team names are linkable and give you some extended information about each team and their opponents.

SELECTION TUESDAY

Of course we find out the draws tomorrow at approx. 4:20 PM Central on ESPNNEWS. The draws will be online at ESPN.com around 5PM. Most schools are having watching parties, so if you are wanting to, I know many invite fans and will be around. Check their websites.

0% BUT STILL ALL-ACADEMIC

Dru Hancock of the Big 12 was very nice to respond and explain why some certain players were selected to the conferences All-Academic Team. I had asked her last week and she didn’t know, so today she got to the bottom of it. It appears that the participation is waived for seniors. That explains how you can never play a match in your career and still be honored. OK.

I know there is more I wanted to say, but as usual, I have been up pway too long and cannot remember.

I do hope to expand these new lists even more over the coming days and I will definitely update them tomorrow when the ITA announces their updated rankings.

    txcollege10s,
I looked at your team, RPI and SOS rankings tonight before the ITA’s come out tomorrow and again I agree with you 100%. I have thought all year that Fresno State, Florida and Arkansas did not belong in the top 16 where they have been most of the year and after reading your charts tonight, I feel even more so. I feel North Carolina, Florida State and Michigan belonged higher up in the rankings then they do before NCAA regional’s are announced tomorrow but none of them will be there unfortunatel.
Fresno State is a very good team but they play a very soft schedule and Arkansas and Florida to me seem over rated this year and belong closer to the 20-22 range rather then where they are. I am not a mathematician like you are, but I do follow the top 25 very closely. The ITA has to upgrade their formulas they are using. They should look at your data as well as TennisRecruiting.net
    Great job!

    txcollege10’s……..
I put together some information that I think will probably be the 64 teams picked today. There are 32 conference champions that get automatic bids. 21 of them are not ranked in the top 43 in today’s rankings. The other 11 of the 32 conference champions are ranked in the top 43 so they are already qualified. So it looks like the cutoff is going to be 43 from today’s rankings along with the 21 unranked automatic bid teams as conference champions to make up the 64 teams. This would mean that San Diego State is the last team in and UNLV is the first team out. I could be wrong but that is how I see it. We will see!

That would be tough to swallow if I were UNLV and had beat them. I do think they can use H2H in the selection. The whole NCAA rulebook is a bit tough to digest. This could give us an explanation.

    txcollege10s,
I made a couple errors on my last post. It should have read the top 45 teams in today’s rankings being the cutoff and the 19 teams that won their conferences that are either unranked or over 45 in the today’s rankings. That would include both UNLV and VCU in the top 45.
    Sorry for the confusion!
